Grenache

Soft, fleshy, mouth feel with subtle fruit flavours like strawberry and plum.

Light to medium plum red.

Smell

Spicy, floral, plummy and raspberry.

Ideal Foods

Pastas, pigeon, rabbit, Italian sausage, capsicum.

Merlot

Rich, fruity flavour. Soft, low in tannin. Blends well with Cabernet Sauvignon.

Colour

Medium deep red.

Smell

Ripe, perfumed berry aromas, fresh and fruity.

Ideal Foods

Italian, Greek, cheese and red meats. Strong fish dishes.

Pinot Noir

Sappy, silky wine, with intense flavour and soft tannin finish. Best drunk young. Some cool climate examples age well.

Light cherry plum red/ purple.

Smell

Berry fruit aromas, herbs, strawberries and cherries.

Ideal Foods

Duck, white meats, pates, pasta veal and lamb.

Shiraz

Full flavoured wine with a spicy flavour and soft tannin finish. Softer and rounder than Cabernet Sauvignon.

Colour

Deep red to brick red.

Smell

Earthy spice aromas with the influence of oak.

Ideal Foods
